Information of

Mandra Island

Mandra Island is an island located in Ciletuh Bay, approximately 100m from the Cikadal coastline. Geologically, this island is composed of massive sandstones of the Ciletuh Formation which was formed around 55-34 million years ago (Eocene). In several locations contact with polymic breccia bedding was also found. This island can be visited by walking across the shallow sea during low tide and at high tide it can only be visited by boating. The name of this island comes from the Bugis language "Mandre" which means to eat. According to local stories, sailors from Bugis landed on the island and the coastal area to eat. Some of them settled in the Cikadal Beach area, their descendants around Cikadal, Ciwaru and Mekarsakti Villages.
